While the IDF and the Shin Bet are intensively engaged in fighting against the
lion’s den terrorist group in the city of Nablus, the Islamic Jihad tried to expand its military grip on the northern West Bank.
According to security sources in Israel, the Islamic Jihad tried to establish a new terrorist organization in the village of Jaba on the Jenin-Nablus area called the “Jaba Battalion”.
Israel’s security forces entered the village of Jaba this week and made a series of arrests, including two security personnel from the PA.
The Islamic Jihad’s plan was for the new terrorist group to carry out shooting attacks on Israeli targets in he Jenin and Nablus areas.
Popular glory of the lion’s den
group from Nablus leads to the opening of an internal competition between the terrorist organizations to establish new terrorist groups in the West Bank that will also gain fame and the support of the Palestinian street.
Over the past year, the Islamic Jihad, under the guidance of Iran, has worked to establish an independent outpost in northern West Bank that will not be subject to the control of the PA.
The Islamic Jihad managed to completely push the Palestinian Authority out of the Jenin area, it established a new group called the “Jenin Battalion”
which also includes armed activists from other organizations such as the “Al-Aqsa Martyrs Battalions” of the Fatah movement and even armed actuvists of the Hamas organization.
This group began to spread towards the areas of Nablus and Tulkarm and carried out shooting attacks against IDF forces and the settlers.
In the area itself, the “Nablus Battalion”, the “Tulkarm Battalion” and the “Tubas Battalion” groups were established, now the Islamic Jihad tried to establish the “Jaba Battalion”.
The idea to establish these battalions was born after the escape of the 6 terrorists from Gilboa prison in September 2021.
According to sources in the Islamic Jihad, the mission of the leader of the organization Ziyad al-Nakhala is to start a war of attrition against Israel in the West Bank, against the IDF and against the settlers.
A few months ago, Ziyad al-Nakhla visited Tehran together with Akram al-Ajuri, the head of the organization’s military wing, and they held discussions with the top of the Revolutionary Guards on how to strengthen the Islamic Jihad organization in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
The person who helped establish these infrastructures in northern West Bank was Sheikh Bassam al-Saadi .from the Jenin refugee camp who was arrested by IDF forces and is currently on trial in a military court
In the early 1990s he was among the 400 deported from Hamas and Islamic Jihad to Marj al-Zohur in Lebanon and personally knows the entire leadership of the organization in the Gaza Strip and abroad.
He spent 15 years in an Israeli prison and worked quietly under the radar from his home in the Jenin refugee camp.
The effort of the terrorist organizations will continue and they will try to exploit success to bring about a new intifada in the West Bank.
