The Palestinians’ fears from the new right-wing government in Israel are beginning to disappear in view of the large wave of protest in Israel against the reform planned by the Netanyahu government in the judicial system.
Despite the sanctions imposed by the Netanyahu government on the Palestinian Authority following its appeal to the United Nations to request a legal opinion from the International Court of Justice in The Hague on the legality of the Israeli occupation, the Palestinian street is encouraged by the large demonstrations that are expected to escalate in the coming weeks against the government.
The sight of tens of thousands of Israeli citizens in different parts of the country encourages the Palestinians to think that the right-wing government is creating a big rift in Israeli society and weakening it, and that Israel is on the brink of a civil war which will lead to disintegration later and then the Palestinians will be able to reap the rewards.
Senior Fatah officials assess in closed forums that the sectarian genie is out of the bottle in Israel and that the internal conflict is inevitable.
The Palestinians also draw encouragement from the steps taken by Ministers Itamar Ben Gvir and Bezalel Smotritz in regards to the Temple Mount and the illegal outposts in the West Bank.
They are sure that these moves and other moves that will be taken in the future will complicate Israel internationally and will also create a crisis with the Biden administration.
They are already pointing to a delegation of 45 American congressmen from the Democratic Party and the Republican Party that visited Israel and refused political meetings in which Ministers Ben Gvir and Smotrich would participate.
The surprise visit of National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir to the Temple Mount created tensions between Israel and Jordan that continue after the Jerusalem police detained the Jordanian ambassador to Israel who wanted to enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. This event damaged Israel’s image in the world and among Arab and Islamic countries and created the false feeling that the Netanyahu government intends to change the status quo on the Temple Mount.
This behavior serves the new narrative that the Palestinians want to stick to the Netanyahu government that it is the most fascist and racist government that has existed in Israel since the establishment of the state, the Palestinians are sure that the current policy of the new government in Israel ultimately serves their interests, its big test will be, according to them, in two months with the beginning of the month of Ramadan, which is close to the time of Passover.
Organizations on the Israeli right have already forwarded requests to the Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir to approve a series of new measures on the Temple Mount, As far as is known, Prime Minister Netanyahu will not allow anything to be changed in the status quo that is practiced there, but this will not, apparently, prevent the incitement of the Palestinian who will try to heat the atmosphere.
A senior official in the PA says that as far as the Palestinians are concerned there is no difference between the new Netanyahu government and the Bennett and Lapid governments, all of these governments of Israel are hostile to the Palestinians and continue to kill the Palestinians, take over their lands and expand the settlements, Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid refused to meet with the chairman Abu Mazen and renew the political negotiations with him and it is likely that Prime Minister Netanyahu will also continue on this path even though he has already met with Abu Mazen in the past.
The Palestinians are happy about the loss of Shas Chairman Aryeh Deri in the High Court and they see the High Court’s decision as a surprising victory over the Netanyahu government.
Many on the Palestinian street admire, despite the hatred for Israel, the fact that it is a democratic country and the large scale of demonstrations against the Netanyahu government because of its intention to introduce far-reaching reforms in the judicial system that have so far been conducted without disturbances.
The changes planned by the Israeli government are seen on the Palestinian street as changes that will bring Israel to a crossroads and turn it into a Middle Eastern country by all the standards of the Arab regimes.
The Palestinians are jealous of the extensive scope of the demonstrations on the ground and ask themselves when this phenomenon will also reach us? When will tens of thousands of Palestinians come out to demonstrate against the corrupt rule of Palestinian Authority Chairman Abu Mazen in the West Bank and against the oppressive rule of Hamas in the Gaza Strip? Why does the Palestinian street show indifference to its situation and when will it regain its dignity?
