Hamas Fears an Israeli Occupation of the Gaza Strip

The leadership of Hamas is increasingly apprehensive about the possibility of an Israeli military invasion of the Gaza Strip. They fear that such an invasion could result in the ousting of their rule and the deportation of as many as half a million Palestinians to Egypt. A senior security official in Israel has suggested that Iran is a driving force behind the current escalation, particularly regarding Hamas’s infiltration of Israeli settlements along the Gaza Strip border.
