Iran’s Potential Response to the Assassination of Ismail Haniyeh

Iranian Chief of Staff Mohammad Bakri has confirmed that Iran’s response to the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh is “certain” and will be “separate and independent” from the response of the broader resistance axis. However, there is speculation that Iran might target locations in Azerbaijan or the Kurdistan region, claiming these areas house Israeli Mossad bases, to avoid direct military confrontation with Israel and prevent a broader regional conflict.
