Officials in the Islamic Jihad organization say that last night’s attack at the Shoafat checkpoint in East Jerusalem, in which an IDF soldier was killed and an Israeli security guard was seriously injured, is a return to the strategy of “uniting all fronts”
that was established by the Palestinian factions in May 2021 and resulted in a major IDF military operation in the Gaza Strip.
According to them, the attack was carried out in protest of Israel’s actions in the Al-Aqsa Mosque and in East Jerusalem and as a response to IDF activity in the Jenin and Nablus areas.
The Palestinian factions are threatening to increase terrorist activity and lead to a major security explosion if Jewish visits to the Temple Mount continue during the holiday of Sukkot and also if Israeli military activity against the centers of terrorism in the northern West Bank continue .
Palestinian factions are also threatening to disrupt the election campaign in Israel and re-raise to the top of the agenda the issue of the establishment of the Palestinian state, which was neglected following the dispute over the maritime border agreement between Israel and Lebanon.
In the Gaza Strip, relative peace has been maintained in the meantime, even though the equation of “uniting all fronts” was born in Gaza In May 2021, when the Hamas organization launched a large barrage of rockets towards Jerusalem in response to the events on the Temple Mount and in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in East Jerusalem.
Israel refrains from renewing the policy of targeted assassinations, despite the wave of terrorism and the use of drones in the West Bank after the terrorist organizations warned it through Egyptian intelligence that this will lead to an escalation at the Gaza Strip border and disrupt the relative calm.
This is probably also the reason why Israel refrains from a major military operation in the northern West Bank for fear that this will also set fire to the border of the Gaza Strip.
The Hamas organization continues the huge campaign of incitement through its media and social media to bring about a new intifada in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
A few days ago, a huge rally was held in Gaza City with the participation of Yichya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, under the title “Al-Aqsa Mosque is in danger”.
Senior Hamas leader Ruhi Moshtaha gave a speech in which he had a message for Israel, he said that” Israel’s actions in the Al-Aqsa Mosque will lead to a large explosion that will change the face of the area”.
Khaled al-Batash, a senior member of the Islamic Jihad, also announced in his speech at the rally that the “resistance is ready at any moment to intervene to protect the Al-Aqsa Mosque”.
Ahead of Sukkot holidaywhen there are increased visits by Jews to the Temple Mount every year, the terrorist organizations are trying to incite East Jerusalem to the activity of demonstrations and terrorism while also threatening to launch rockets at Israel from the Gaza Strip if it does not stop its military activities in Jerusalem and the West Bank.
