The Shin Bet and the police are working vigorously in East Jerusalem and in the Palestinian villages north of Jerusalem in an attempt to track down the terrorist cell responsible for the two attacks yesterday in Jerusalem.
It is possible that the terror cell belongs to the ISIS organization, or to the Hamas organization or the Popular Front, these organizations have a lot of knowledge in planting charges and activating them remotely using a cell phone device.
The explosive charges that were placed in Jerusalem were built in a way that was designed to increase the intensity of the damage to civilians and they contained iron balls and nails.
The purpose of the attacks was to produce a large number of casualties and an effect of fear, therefore they were directed against the civilian population in Jerusalem and not against Israel’s security forces, it is not impossible that the attacks were on a religious basis because of the tensions around the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount, it is also impossible to ignore the timing of the attacks while preparation for the establishment of the new right-wing government led by Netanyahu are taking place.
The immediate danger of not arresting the members of the cell is that they will try to carry out more attacks by placing explosive devices in Jerusalem and that the attacks will become a role model and inspiration for other terrorists.
The security officials estimate that because of the importance of Jerusalem, the various terrorist organizations will now increase their terrorist activities in Jerusalem in order to try and to raise the Palestinian issue to the top of the international agenda because the wave of terrorism in the West Bank is not creating the political and media effect they want to achieve.
The attacks in Jerusalem indicate that the motivation for terrorist actions against Israel is increasing and the capabilities of the terrorist organizations have also improved, one of them managed to establish an organized and effective terrorist infrastructure in the Jerusalem area.
The success of the attacks in Jerusalem increases the motivation of the Palestinians for the terrorist actions and gives them a sense of a possible “victory” over Israel, it creates the feeling of fear among the Israeli public that a situation of returning to the days of the second intifada and worsening of the personal security situation within Israel itself.
The attacks in Jerusalem are a reminder of terror attacks that were carried out in the capital in the past years by the military wing of Hamas.
Security officials in Israel are investigating the possibility that the cell responsible for the attacks in Jerusalem was activated from the Gaza Strip, the terrorist organizations in Gaza have declared alertness and are preparing for a possible Israeli military response.
It must not be forgotten that the current wave of terrorism is a direct result of the Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip in May 2021, this military confrontation strengthened the motivation for terrorism because of the events on the Temple Mount and in East Jerusalem that led also to the process of establishing the armed terrorist groups that gradually took control of the Jenin and Nablus areas and pushed out the PA.
