Hamas is repositioning itself as the protector of al-Aqsa

Hamas managed in the last two days to ride again the wave of violence on the Temple Mount and position itself as the defender of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque. Hamas is not interested in a new round of fighting with Israel on the border of the Gaza Strip, it is trying to bring about the opening of additional fronts against Israel without the residents of the Gaza Strip paying a high price for it.

Despite the mediation efforts of Egypt and Qatar, rocket fire from the Gaza Strip towards Israel continued for the second day in a row following the riots at Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount.

The Hamas organization has allowed the terrorist organizations to launch dozens of rockets towards Israel, but it is careful not to attack Israeli depth and is currently content with attacking the Israeli settlements near the border of the Gaza Strip.

Hamas is not interested in a new round of fighting against Israel in which the Gaza Strip will be involved, it has a lot to lose economically and in terms of the humanitarian concessions it received from Israel such as the entry of thousands of workers from the Gaza Strip to work in Israel, it also does not want to lose the Qatari financial aid of 30 million dollars every month for the Gaza Strip.

That is why Hamas is currently content with only launching dozens of rockets at Israel, launching anti-aircraft missiles at the Israeli Air Force planes that attacked targets in the Gaza Strip, with condemnations and demonstrations of support for the al-Aqsa Mosque all over the Gaza Strip, and with harsh statements after receiving messages from Israel that it is not interested in an escalation and is working to calm the situation in Temple Mount.

On April 5, Saleh Al-Arouri, the deputy chairman of the Hamas movement, called on the Palestinians and the Israeli Arabs to respond to the Israeli crime at the Al-Aqsa Mosque by force and by all means.

The fascist and criminal Zionist government should know that there is a high price for harming the holy places of Islam and the ground will burn under its feet, Al-Arouri stressed.

The plan of the Iranian-led resistance axis to escalate in the month of Ramadan was successful, it was carried out in stages, the first stage included terror attacks in the West Bank and the Megiddo junction, the second stage began in East Jerusalem and the Temple Mount in preparation for Passover and is supposed to continue until the end of the month of Ramadan, Hamas officials say that at the same time as the violent events in the Temple Mount continue the attacks in the West Bank and attacks on Israel on the northern border will also continue.

Sources in Hamas say that Israel is weak because of the wave of internal protests against the judicial reform and because of the crisis in relations with the US and that Hamas was able to re-impose on it the equation of unification of the fronts that it started in May 2021 in the “Guardian of the Walls” operation.

Hamas is satisfied with the demonstrations in several Arab cities and villages in Israel against what is happening at the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the demonstrations of support in Arab countries and Turkey.

Hamas officials claim that the organization kept its promises before the month of Ramadan that it would protect the Al-Aqsa Mosque by all means to prevent its division between the Jews and the Muslims, as Israel did in the Cave of the Patriarchs in 1994, and that it succeeded in preventing sacrifices being made by Jews on the Temple Mount this year in preparation for Passover.

Hamas says that it is the protector of Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which are the key to peace and stability in the region, and that it has proven that Jerusalem can be the explosive that can lead to a big explosion at any time.

Hamas prides itself on having succeeded in motivating the residents of East Jerusalem, who are the human shield of Al-Aqsa Mosque against the Jews, and thwarting Israel’s intention to take over the Temple Mount complex.

The violent events on the Temple Mount symbolize the failure of the security meetings initiated by the US before the month of Ramadan in Aqaba and Sharm el-Sheikh with the participation of Israel, the Palestinian Authority, Jordan and Egypt to prevent violence.

There is great anger in Jordan, which sees the recent events on the Temple Mount as a serious injury to its position as guardian of the holy places in Jerusalem. The Palestinian Authority is also angry at Israel and fears that the violent events will spill over into the West Bank and turn into demonstrations in the main cities that will undermine the stability of the PA.

Israel adopts a cautious policy to avoid escalation, there are two weeks left until the end of the month of Ramadan and the security establishment has intelligence information about intentions to increase the attacks ahead of Independence Day, in the meantime the Hamas organization has managed to ride the wave of violence again and strengthen its position in Palestinian society as the protector of Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque as it did In May 2021, without entering into an all-out war with Israel, while the Palestinian Authority continues to weaken.
